More spring dresses!

We are heading North for a family wedding in November, so I thought I would splash out and purchase some new fabric to make dresses for the girls.

First we had to decide on a dress style. Not being one to make up patterns from scratch, I showed them the available patterns from my drawer and they both chose Dress A (top left) from the Simplicity 2377 pattern below.

Then it was time to go and choose fabric. They both indicated that they would like something in the pink-purple range, and with that in mind I took them to the bolts of fabric at our local fabric store and we started our search.

Each time we found something that Miss Six liked we would put the bolt in the trolley. If the next thing she found she liked more we'd swap, if she liked it less, we've leave it be. Very quickly she settled on a print - the bottom one in the photo below. Surprisingly, Miss Two was just as easy - I showed her several bolts, asked if she liked them, and she gave a very clear: "No, I don't like that". Then we showed her Miss Six's second choice and she couldn't wrench it out of my arms quickly enough, saying "I like this one!" - the top one in the photo below. Then we collected lining for Miss Two's dress (as the fabric is just sheer enough to need lining), ribbon (the same for both given the similarity of the fabric colour, and given our desire to tie the two dresses together for the occasion), thread and headed home to start sewing!

Well, I'll start on the dresses right after I finish a few projects for an up-coming market - more on that this Thursday in my Creative Space!
