I just can't settle to one thing in my Creative Space of late. Although I need to, as Spring is here and the girls (particularly Miss Six) need dresses.
So to celebrate the purchase of my new sewing machine I have bought a few dress patterns and am going through my stash of remnants and old clothes to see what I can put together. First dress off the rack (or out of the rag bag) is this fit'n'flair for Miss Six.
The floral print at the bottom is cut from the skirt of my going away dress that, at almost 14 years old, was in need of some kind of revival. I couldn't bear to just throw it to the rag bag - especially when it had a full skirt, most of which was in perfect condition for recycling.
The top is made from left overs from another top that I had cut out but never made up. It's a white cheesecloth style fabric with little pale pink bobbles all over it. I can still make up the original top for Miss Two.
The lining was from my scraps box and the lace from my ribbon box. I'm disappointed that the seam shows through around the neckline - but I clipped it nice and evenly so I'll pretend it's supposed to show. And it actually shows up less in real life than it does in this photo.
Miss Six is very happy in any case, and that's what matters. She's had a bit of a dress drought across winter.
I am currently part way through making the same style for Miss Two from a pink and green floral remnant I bought years ago - I have no idea what the fabric is, but it has a lovely drape to it. I am pleased that patterns for children come in Size 3-8 as Miss Two is growing into size 3, and Miss Six is growing into size 8. Perfect!
Anyway - I'm off to drop my old sewing machine into the shop as part of the trade-in deal. Farewell my faithful friend of 15 years! What's happening in your Creative Space this week?
What a lovely little dress. I'm sure it will be worn with great pride :)
