Miss Seven's school had their musical this week - "Alice The Musical" by Mark and Helen Johnson (with a few additional songs and dialogue). It has been a tiring term with classroom routines changed to fit in rehearsals, and then the excitement building as this week has become closer. The performances were of a very high calibre, even if things were understandably chaotic behind the scenes with 350+ students to keep in the right place at the right time with the right costume on!
The Year One girls were all flowers and Miss Seven even got to stand at the front of the stage in the opening scene with four of her classmates as a feature flower. Okay, so in the overall scheme of things it's not a huge role and certainly didn't warrant a place in the program. But I am her mother and to me it was as good as being Alice herself!
Anyway, about a month ago the Music Director said she was still looking for sewers to finish a few costumes. I had kept away from volunteering due to other creative commitments, but then put my hand up at the last minute.
So I was handed a bundle of satin in red, burgundy, chocolate brown and bright green, shown a hand sketch, and given a few details and web links - all from which I was to make four worms, one caterpillar and a Queen of Hearts cape.
My sewing machine had just gone to get yet another check for try and cure an intermittent fault, so I borrowed one from a friend a few doors down and away I went - designing, measuring, cutting, purchasing a few extra bits and finally making the necessary costumes.
Unfortunately I have no photos of the costumes due to my current negligent habit of forgetting to photograph things that I make and then give-away. And the ordered photos from the musical itself are yet to find their way into my hands.
But I do have this - a delightful surprise found in the program for the musical! It seems Miss Seven and I have both made our musical debut this week!
(Apologies for the quality of the photo - I have tried to retain anonymity!)
oh that is lovely that your efforts were acknowledged. well done to your School.
